Dolostone

Dolostone is dolomite limestone.

It is a rock related to limestone.

But instead of limestone's aragonite and calcite, dolostone consists of mineral dolomite.

It often forms from limestone, in magnesium rich conditions where calcite turns into dolomite.

It is a harder rock than is limestone, with a more crystalline texture, and no fossils.

It is yellowish cream, grey or white in colour, and consists at least 50% of dolomite.

It can look similar to limestone but fizzes less in hydrochloric acid.

It occurs with limestone, as layers within limestone where it has been  through the process of dolomitization.
