Green Malachite
The beautiful green malachite is
a copper ore mineral.
It is found in oxideised zones of copper ore.
It is often the first indicator of copper for prospectors.
It is the green stuff that starts growing on your old copper coin.
So basically what it is, is oxidised copper.
It is beautiful and green, and it can be found in a few different habits: massive, botryoidal, fibrous and stalactitic.
It is used as a minor copper ore, and it is mainly used as gemstone and ornamental material.
It is found in many countries but one of the largest deposits comes from Russia, where it is sometimes used in the interior of palaces and cathedrals.
It is also very popular in jewelry, where it's often used in rings, earrings, cufflinks, etc. It also makes nice polished eggs and jewelry boxes.
In the nature, it often occurs with azurite.
